This event has ended.

Jessie Rose Vala's intricate graphite pencil drawings on paper create sprawling dark netherworlds where young women, mythical creatures, sorcerers, and zombies inhabit and undergo journeys of transformation. A 28-foot scroll drawing explores the strength and symbol of a storm, as well as the symbol of the cow. Through this non-linear story, a girl struggles through a rocky mountain range and as the world around her shifts and tumbles, she transforms into her surroundings. Along the way, she meets cattle, large butterflies and wondrous plant life. Amidst the brutality of Jessie's work lies contemplations about our inner struggles with over-consumption, confrontation, violence, change, and our relationship to the natural and mystical world.
