Meulensteen presents Sunny Side Up by Erik Binder, his first solo exhibition in the United States. An absurd and often playful humor permeates Binder’s work, belying a deep-seated critical agenda. Working with brightly-colored spray paint on canvas and paper, Binder’s loose compositions combine familiar, even whimsical imagery to sometimes eerie effect. The work on view was created in the gallery space over the course of three days.
Erik Binder received his Ph.D. in 2010 from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Bratislava, Slovakia. His work has been featured in the 2003 Venice Biennale, and in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe, including at Musée d'Art Moderne de Saint-Etienne, Metropole, France; Kunsthalle Darmstadt, Darmstadt, Germany;Progr, Bern, Switzerland; Festival Internacional de Arte Marbella,Marbella, Spain; and Siemens ArtLab, Vienna, Austria.
