This event has ended.

Meulensteen presents Steven Holl Architects’ Forking Time, the official unveiling of the firm’s new design for the Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University. The exhibition, to take place in the gallery’s Project Space, will comprise more than 30 process models, a series of Holl’s exploratory watercolors, and a digital presentation to provide visitors with an in-depth view of the project’s design evolution.

Steven Holl established his innovative practice, Steven Holl Architects, in New York in 1976. Now a 40-person firm operating from two locations, New York City and Beijing, China, SHA has achieved widespread recognition for projects including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City; the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki; MIT’s Simmons Hall in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Vanke Center in Shenzhen, China; and Linked Hybrid in Beijing. Holl leads the office with senior partner Chris McVoy and junior partner Noah Yaffe.

In 1978, Holl collaborated with William Stout to launch Pamphlet Architecture, an influential series of publications that presented essays, speculative projects, and typological analyses by a new generation of thinkers. In 1981, he joined the faculty of Columbia University, where he continues to teach today. Among many other prestigious awards, Holl has received the 1998 Alvar Aalto Medal, the 2002 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award Architecture, the 2010 RIBA Jencks Award, and will be presented with the AIA Gold Medal in May of this year.
