This event has ended.

“Norwood & Underline Present” is a group exhibition that explores the relationship between man and nature in the urban environment. Featuring an enticing array of contemporary painting, photography, photomontage, and sculpture, the collection will probe themes of the fragility of the manmade, the overpowering force of the natural world, and the coexistence of the two within the metropolitan sphere.

Held in conjunction with the current yearlong showcase at the Norwood Arts Club, curated by UNDERLINE Gallery Director Casey Burry, “Norwood & Underline Present” will investigate similar themes of selfhood, community, and utopian aspiration. Through a series of dreamlike images by Andrew Moore, Margaret Evangeline, Amy Casey, and other celebrated artists, the Norwood exhibition combines the real with the imagined, while exploring the possibility of alternative worlds. Traversing utopian and dystopian visions, the works included in “Norwood & Underline Present“ will correspondingly investigate urban experience, while envisioning the possibility of substitute social and environmental models. A curated program of lectures, readings, and workshops with the artists of both shows will supplement the exhibitions at Norwood and UNDERLINE and be held concurrently at both institutions.

Gallery owner Patrick Sullivan notes, “The goal of the exhibition is to have the viewer reflect upon the inherent conflict between the city and nature. Ultimately, we hope that the work will force the audience to reconsider human progress and urban community.”
