Rick Prol and Juan Eduardo Gomez “Premonitions”
Next to Nothing
This event has ended.
Next to Nothing presents Premonitions, an exhibition of new and historical work from two noted New York City artists, Rick Prol and Juan Eduardo Gomez.

Premonitions will feature recent paintings by Rick Prol as well as a selection of works on paper dating from 1991 in which he established the foundation of his visual language of symbols and metaphors. Juan Eduardo Gomez’s paintings and works on paper explore the rich terrain between figurative and abstract work employing his own emotional and personal symbols.
About the Artists:
Rick Prol
Prol was born and raised in NYC where he currently lives and works. His work exemplifies and helped define with “anarchical impudence” the more dangerous and harrowing aspects of urban reality with images both horrific and absurd, with a touch of humor. Prol’s aesthetic employs Art Brut Expressionism to convey images of human folly and suffering in a variety of media including the paintings in this exhibition. Prol’s work is in many private and public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, NYC, the Guggenheim Museum, NYC, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Contemporary Museum of Art, Chicago, Holocaust Museum, Washington DC, Smithsonian Libraries Collection, Washington DC, Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Washington DC, Ackland Art Museum and University of North Carolina Larry Aldrich Museum, Ridgefield, CT.
Juan Eduardo Gomez
I came to The United States to be an artist. I left a culture of oppression and violence that was prevalent at the time in Colombia. I realized that by allowing myself to be free, I could thank and celebrate the people and the places that welcomed me.
In paintings, I like the use of emotional and personal subject matter.
