POISON, two solo exhibitions by artists Steven Balogh and Robert Dandarov.
 
Gallery MC is pleased to announce two solo shows. Both Balogh and Dandarov New York based artists who witnessed much of the recent barbarism of Central and Eastern Europe, including the Balkan territories, and their art reflects the turmoil and violence of their memories as well as the current toxic environment in which we live. Through the alchemy of their mutual experiences and devotion to art, a special friendship has blossomed.
  
Steven Balogh will present selections from four decades of his works, dating back to the1970’s Soviet occupied Hungary, including paintings, installation, and photographs, as well as some new ballet-themed works.

Balogh, was born István Vilmos Balogh in Hungary, Europe. In 1978 he joined the Studio Lajos Vajda in Szentendre, Hungary, a group of underground artists working in defiance of the prevailing political system at the time. In 1980 he had his first one-man show in Budapest. He spent seven months in an Austrian refugee camp, and in 1987 and he moved to New York City where he has lived ever since. His art has always been politically and socially conscious and involved with his times and surroundings.  In 2016 he had a long running solo show at Artscape PS.109, Grady Alexis Gallery in New York City. In 2017, he participated in five shows in New York City and one in Hungary. His art is exhibited and collected internationally. 
 
Robert Dandarov will present a selection of recent paintings and photography.  His works have been described as wavering between the primordial and the rational as well as the sacred and the secular, communicating through the symbolic language of myths.

Dandarov was born in Strumica, Macedonia (part of former Yugoslavia). He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Skopje, American Academy of Art in Chicago and the National Academy of Design in New York. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the US and Europe. Dandarov’s recent exhibitions include ” Paintings, Drawings and Two Etchings ” at the National Gallery of Macedonia. ”New Works” at the Museum of Contemporary art in Skopje, Macedonia; exhibitions at Hugeia Art Gallery, Belgium, Olaf Clasen Gallery, Cologne, Germany; Gallery 490, New York and others. In 2017 he participated in Personal identity, Gallery MC, New York, N.Y., Open call: Truth, BRIC, Brooklyn, Criss cross, Pio Monte della Misieracordia, Naples, Italy, and Lyle O Reitzel Gallery, New York, N.Y. His art is exhibited and collected internationally.
